Construct a Cell Model
Students must create a drawing of an animal cell that accurately represents the parts that help the cell function. Students will use one full page in their lab notebook to draw and label an animal eukaryote cell. On the next page in their notebook they will write a description of each cell component (organelles) and include one interesting fact (i.e. the symbiosis theory of mitochondria). Students may use colored pencils.

Representation of cell not fully accurate. Not all cell parts are represented or are not clearly represented.
Proficient

Mostly accurate representation of cell . Cell parts are clear and all represented.
Advanced

Highly accurate representation of cell. Cell parts are very clearly and accurately represented.
Labeling

Beginning

No key or numerous errors in cell part labeling.
Developing

Missing labels or more than two spelling errors in the key of cell parts.
Proficient

All parts are labeled appropriately with no more than two spelling errors in key of cell parts.
Advanced

All parts are labeled accurately with correct spellings in key of cell parts.
Organelles

Beginning

Most (6 or more) organelles were left out of the model or have size/appearance issues.
Developing

4-5 organelles were left out of the model or have size/appearance issues.
Proficient

1-3 organelles were left out of the model or have size/appearance issues.
Advanced

All organelles are present, and correct in size appearance.
Neatness

Beginning

Very messy. Numerous smudges on project. No Title.
Developing

Beginning

No organelles, or handwritting illegible.
Developing

Some organelles present but missing more than 3 parts of the cell. Descriptions inadequate. Handwritting messy.
Proficient

Most organelles present. Missing 1-2 parts of the cell. Descriptions Adequate. Handwritting mostly neat, few mistakes.
