Current Events Rubric- History Of The World

Purpose: In order to more successfully contribute to community and society at large, you should be current on issues, controversies and events. Being an informed citizen and discussing current events will give you a better perspective on different points of view. You will examine what is happening right now in the world and try to make connections to the past, present, future, and ourselves. Each student will complete the current events assignment individually.

Article 15 pts	Meets Standards The article is about a current topic, event or issue. The article contains at least 4 paragraphs. The article (cut out or photocopied) is attached to your paper.	Approaching Standards The article submitted is missing ONE of the requirements listed.	Below Standards The article submitted is missing TWO or more of the requirements.	Does Not Meet Standards The article submitted has no relevance to this course.
Summary 25 pts	Meets Standards 100 to 250 words in length; answers all of the basic questions (who?, what?, when?, where?, why?); gives a brief but meaningful summary of what the article is about; the main ideas are summarized and the significance of these ideas is explained.	Approaching Standards Written summary is weak in ONE of the required areas.	Below Standards Written summary is weak in TWO of the required areas.	Does Not Meet Standards Incomplete. Written summary is below expectations of the grade level in all criteria.
Reflective Response 25 pts	Meets Standards Response to the article is one paragraph (at least 5 sentences), and explains your reactions and opinions to the information in your article. Facts are included from the article to support your opinion/reaction. No grammar or spelling errors in written submission. Paper is neat and legible.	Approaching Standards Your response to the article is weak in ONE of the required areas.	Below Standards Your response to the article is weak in TWO of the required areas.	Does Not Meet Standards Your response is very poor and too short. No evidence of proofreading at all.
Presentation 20 pts	Meets Standards Presented in the presenters own words with only portions read from the article. Voice is clear and loud. Questions were asked of the class and a discussion was lead by the student.	Approaching Standards A weakness in ONE of the required areas.	Below Standards Weakness in TWO required areas.	Does Not Meet Standards Weakness in THREE or more required areas.
Participation 15 pts	Meets Standards The student is listening during presentations and paying attention. Questions asked are appropriate for the current topic.	Approaching Standards Student is somewhat distracted during presentations. Questions asked are appropriate for the current topic.	Below Standards Student is distracted during presentations. Questions are off topic.	Does Not Meet Standards Student is distracted and is distracting others. Questions asked are off topic.
