Independent Novel Chapter Summary 
Students will read segmented independent novel assignments and complete a 5-7 sentence summary for each segement. They will include topic sentences and transitions ( in the case of 2 paragraphs) to obtain a better understanding of how to synthesize character and plot development and to write a great summary .

Student response has summarized the segment with appropriate number of sentences, and somewhat implements topic sentences and transisitons ( in the case of 2 paragraphs).

Student response has summarized segment, but contains too much information andlacks true topic sentences and transitions ( in the case of 2 paragraphs)
