Persuasive Essay Persuasive Essay Student persuasive essay that uses support to back up their argument. TEK-ELA 4.19 Students will write persuasive texts to influence the attitudes or actions of a specific audience on specific issues. 4.19A Students will write persuasive essays for appropriate audiences that establish a position and use supporting details. 	Poor 1 1 pts	Fair 2-3 3 pts	Good 4 4 pts
Arguments	Poor 1 The student lists reasons but does not back up with support.	Fair 2-3 The student uses some facts to support the argument, but they are not used the entire time.	Good 4 The student uses the required amount of support to back up their opinion.
Organization	Poor 1 The student does not have the 5 paragraphs that were part of the directions.	Fair 2-3 The student has the 5 paragraphs, but the student did not follow the format.	Good 4 The student has used 5 short paragraphs:<BR> P1-introduce his or her position on a topic<BR> Body-give three arguments/reasons to back up their position.<BR> P5-Sum up their main position on topic and call to action.
Introduction Paragraph	Poor 1 The student did not have the three parts of the introduction.	Fair 2-3 The student attempted an opinion statement, but used "I think". student did not follow directions when writing the introduction paragraph or did not have a structure.	Good 4 The student had the three parts of the introduction including an exemplary opinion statement and fluid organization.
Conclusion Paragraph	Poor 1 The student did not use the main idea to bring their paper to a close.	Fair 2-3 The student used the main idea to end the paper and restated the opinion statement, but did not restate the ideas clearly.	Good 4 The student restated the opinion statement, showed good organization, and had a creative and original ending.
Grammar and Spelling & Word Choice	Poor 1 More than 5 spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.<BR> <BR> Ideas are never expressed using strong or precise language.	Fair 2-3 Three to five spelling, capitalization, punctuation, or grammatical errors.<BR> <BR> Ideas are sometimes expressed using strong and precise language.
