AP Biology Diabetes Project Rubric

Create a 3-6 minute video, performance piece, pamphlet, children's book, or presentation that serves as a PSA for a specific audience in our community on the causes & effects of diabetes. Your project should demonstrate that you are the authority on the topic, but should also be digestible for your audience. The end goal is to reduce the prevalence of diabetes in our community. The assignment will be worth a total of 30 points.

AP Biology Diabetes Project You are assigned the task of creating a meaningful PSA for a segment of your community that teaches the facts about diabetes, as well as how it relates to genetics and evolution. Your end goal is to reduce the occurrence of diabetes in our community.

Content 9 pts weighted X 3	Poor The project does not teach the biological content, it is not appropriate for the audience, or is vague in its explanations.	Fair-Good Project teaches the biological concept, but it isn't appropriate to the audience or is vague in its details. It includes symptoms, risk factors, and some physiological info. It touches on the basics of genetics and evolution, but doesn't extend the info.	Good-Excellent The project clearly and thoroughly teaches the biological concept. It includes symptoms, risk factors, basic physio, as well as info on evolutionary and genetic theories and hypotheses, and how diabetes could impact the evolution of humanity.
Accuracy 9 pts weighted X 3	Poor There are three or more content inaccuracies in the project.	Fair-Good There are one or two content inaccuracies in the project.	Good-Excellent All scientific facts and concepts are accurately represented in the project.
Clarity 3 pts weighted X 1	Poor The audience has difficulty understanding the project. The explanation of the topic is difficult to understand.	Fair-Good The audience is able to understand most of the text/audio of the presentation easily. Most of the explanations are easy to understand and require no additional clarification.	Good-Excellent The audience is able to easily understand the text/audio of the project. The key concepts are easily understood.
Creativity 3 pts weighted X 1	Poor Project is typical, lacking in creativity, or appears that little time was taken in its production.	Fair-Good Project is interesting, and shows some creativity. It is clear that adequate time and effort were dedicated to making the project unique and something beyond the typical.	Good-Excellent Project is exceptionally creative and interesting. It is clear that significant time and effort were dedicated to making the video unique, and it stands out from the other projects.
Quality/Presentation 3 pts weighted X 1	Poor The project appears haphazard and of low quality, has glaring errors in spelling, pronunciation, editing, technique, etc...	Fair-Good Project is well put together, props/backgrounds/ materials are used appropriately, music and sound effects are utilized. Minimal errors that don't distract from delivery.	Good-Excellent Project is exceptionally well put together, props/backgrounds/ materials, as well as music/sound effects are used appropriately and enhance the audience's understanding of the topic and experience.
Timing 3 pts weighted X 1	Poor Project presentation is under 3 minutes in length.	Fair-Good Project presentation is over 6 minutes in length.	Good-Excellent Project presentation is between 3-6 minutes, and there is no obvious "filler."
