Ineffective introduction that only partially presents the main points to be presented within the essay. Little to no thesis statement.
Average

Somewhat ineffective introduction that somewhat presents the main points to be presented within the essay. An attempt at a thesis is made, but perhaps points are missing.
Advanced

Moderately effective introduction that presents the main points to be explained within the thesis statement essay. Thesis could be more than one sentence, perhaps.
Superior

Highly effective introduction that presents the main points to be explained within the essay. Clear thesis statement given with concise points given within the one thesis statement sentence
Body

Beginner/Emerging

Body points are completely opinon with vague explanations given. Little to no connection with prompt.
Average

Body points are stated, but few exemplified with evidence from the novel or with details. There is an attempt at it, but that may be all.
Advanced

Body points are moderately effective and stated somewhat clearly and exemplified with evidence from the novel and thorough details are given
Superior

Body points are strong and clearly given and are exemplified with evidence from the novel. Explanations are completely thorough.
Conclusion

Little conclusion given at all. No summary is evident.

Some conclusion development, but summary is somewhat weak in restating points made within the essay.
