Quantity Figurative language is present within the poem.	Very Good Student's poem contains at least three or more examples of either a metaphor simile.	Good Student's poem contains at least two examples of either a metaphor or simile.	Developing Student's poem contains only one or no example of a metaphor or simile.
Content Assigned figurative language is used clearly and connects to one of assigned emotions.	Very Good Student has shown understanding clearly by connecting multiple metaphors or similes with the emotion of: happy, mad, or sad.	Good Student has clearly connected a metaphor or simile with the emotion of: happy, mad, or sad.	Developing Student has shown connection between a metaphor or simile and emotion, but has not used an assigned emotion of: happy, sad, or mad.
Creativity Unique and interesting phrases are used within the poem.	Very Good Student shows clear understanding of their creativity by multiple uses of original/creative phrases, including either a metaphor or simile.	Good Student shows clear creativity by their use of at least two creative phrases including either a metaphor or simile.	Developing Student is just about close to showing creativity by their use of at least one relevant and/or creative phrase including either a metaphor or simile.
