Map	Excellent Students drew and labeled all of the Empires of Western Africa (Ghana Empire, Mali Empire, and Songhai Empire).	Good Students drew and labeled only two of the regions of the Western Africa Empires.	Fair Students drew and labeled only one region of the Western Africa Empires.	Poor Students didn't label all of the Empires that they drew, or they didn't include a map.
Journal Entries	Excellent Every student in the group created a journal entry reflecting on what they learned about Africa and each entry was at least a paragraph long.	Good Every students contributed a journal entry but not every entry was long enough.	Fair Some students didn't contribute journal entries.	Poor Most students didn't contribute journal entries.
Writing	Excellent Information on every Empire was included in book. Students included information on the rulers of each Empire. Information on the main industries of each Empire was included.
