Garden Design Project

Students work together in designing, planting and tending a garden. Students will be decide on the seeds needed in order to sustain a healthy garden. Students will need to keep track of the growth of their plants over time and record their measurements on a growth chart.

Group Participation & Team Work Collaborate to demonstrate effective communication skills when working with others. To demonstrate a cohesive team unit.	Poor Other group members did majority of project.	Fair Contributed to small portion of the project; other group members contributed more.	Good Group participation was good, but lacking enthusiasm to contribute.	Excellent Attempted to lead the group at times; enthusiasm was evident throughout project.
Development & design Each student will work within the team environment to design a garden and decide on how to sustain it.	Poor Student design was poorly designed and showed little knowledge of the plant types necessary for sustainability.	Fair Student's design was complete but showed only some knowledge of the plant types for sustainability and how to care for them.	Good Student's garden was nicely designed and demonstrated adequate knowledge of the plant types sustainability and how to care for them.	Excellent Student's well designed; demonstrated a clear understanding of self-sustaining plants, the conditions in which their plant types thrive and the proper ways to take care of them.
Planting Process Masterplan & Timeline reflects critical thinking regarding timing of steps and procedures necessary for preparing and tending a garden.	Poor Student demonstrated knowledge of 1-3 of the essential questions on the project directions and objectives.	Fair Student demonstrated knowledge of 4-7 of the essential questions on the project directions and objectives.	Good Student demonstrated knowledge of 8-10 of the essential questions on the project directions and objectives.	Excellent Student demonstrated knowledge of 11 or more of the essential questions on the project directions and objectives.
Measurement and Budget Students will document the measurements of the plants and garden space. They will demonstrate area, perimeter, cost of plants and materials and come up with a total budget.	Poor Student's measurements were off by several inches. Student's budget was incomplete not accurately calculated or missing key components.	Fair Student's measurements were off by more than one inch. Budget was inaccurate and/ or calculated incorrectly.	Good Student's measurements were barely off and showed location accuracy. Budget was mostly on target with less than 3 calculation errors.	Excellent Student's measurements and budget were exact.
