Response Quality	Advanced Responses are fully developed and strongly on-topic. Student includes personal opinions, thoughts and feelings in the response	Proficient Responses are well developed and remain on-topic for the most part.	Average Responses are somewhat developed and remain on-topic some of the time.	Below Average Responses are underdeveloped and do not remain on-topic.
Reflection	Advanced Student has made an excellent attempt to reflect on meaning, theme, message, or issue of the situation or event.	Proficient Student has made a good attempt to reflect on meaning, theme, message, or issue of the situation or event.	Average Student has made some attempt to reflect on meaning, theme, message, or issue of the situation or event.	Below Average Student has made little or no attempt to reflect on meaning, theme, message, or issue of the situation or event.
Criteria	Advanced All items are discussed in detail and expanded on.	Proficient Most of the items are discussed and expanded on.	Average Most of the items are discussed but more detail or expansion is needed.	Below Average Some of the items are touched on but more detail is needed.
Organization	Advanced Entry was dated and complete. Journal is legible, neat, and gramatically correct with few spelling errors.	Proficient Entry was dated and complete. Some grammatical errors are apparent. There are about 10 spelling errors. Writing is difficult to read.	Average Entry was dated. Many grammatical errors. There are more than 10 spelling errors.	Below Average Entry missing or incomplete. Journal is poorly written. Multiple grammatical errors and spelling errors makes reading difficult.
