This rubric will allow me to gauge students ability to predict, comprehend, and retell the story.

	E 4 pts	M 3 pts	P 2 pts	NP 1 pts
Prediction	E Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story, gives rich detail supported by information they have already gathered from the book (pictures, title, etc.).	M Student gives several ideas about what may occur in the story.	P Student provides some ideas about what may occur in the story.	NP Student shows little to no ability to predict what story will be about.
Comprehension	E Student gives detailed answers to questions about story supported by evidence in the story (pictures, title, etc.).	M Student is able to answer questions about book sufficiently.	P Student shows some understanding of what story was about when questioned.	NP Student shows little to no understanding of what story was about when questioned.
Retell	E Student can retell story with rich detail supported by evidence in the story (pictures, title, etc.).	M Student can retell story with sufficient detail.	P Student can retell a basic outline of the story.	NP Student can retell little to no parts of the story.
Strategies	E Student uses reading strategies accurately and independently.	M Student uses reading strategies accurately, needs occasional prompting.	P Student sometimes uses reading strategies with frequent prompting.	NP Student does not accuratley use reading strategies.
