Student Reading Fluency Rubric 
A Rubric to Evaluate Students' Oral Reading Fluency and pronunciation. Students will choose groups in order to read "The secret of the Egyptian Cat". Grades will be given individually. All groups will have 1 week to practice this reading and will present the day of the oral exam.

Student reads with a monotone voice. Reader does not sound like natural speaking. Listener is bored. Reader's volume is too slow.

Reader sometimes sounds like a natural speaker. Tone of voice is consistent throughout text. Listener has some interest. Reader volume is a little low but still understood.
Excellent

Reader sounds like natural speaker. The student varies voice or pitch to match text. Listener is interested. Reader has great volume and is easily understood by all.
Punctuation

Reader does not pay attention to punctuation, stopping and pausing in inappropriate places.
Good

Reader pays some attention to punctuation, occasionally stopping and pausing at inappropriate places.
Excellent

Reader pays attention to punctuation, pausing and stopping at appropriate places.
Phrasing/ Accuracy

Poor

Reader often reads word-by-word.

Reader makes multiple pronunciation mistakes (+5). long pauses, false starts, sound-outs, repetitions, and/or multiple attempts as they are reading.

Reading sounds choppy and broken up.

Reader makes a few mistakes in pronunciation (3 or 4). Long pauses, false starts, sound-outs, repetitions, and/or multiple attempts as they are reading.

Reader reads in smooth phrases.

Rarely makes mistakes in pronunciation (1 or 2). Reader makes no long pauses, false starts, sound-outs, repetitions, and/or multiple attempts as they are reading.
Rate

Poor

Reader reads too slow or too fast throughout the reading, making it difficult for the listener to understand.
Good

Reader reads at a good rate most of the time, occasionally reading too fast or too slow. Listener occasionally has difficulty understanding the reader.
Excellent

Reader reads at a good rate, making it easy for the listener to understand.
Discipline in the classroom

Poor

Interrupts several times by making noise, laughing or talking with others.
Good

Shows some interest in other students partipation but still makes some noise and avoid concentration from his/her fellow classmates.
Excellent

Demonstrates, through consistent appropriate behavior, their understanding of the need to follow and listen his/her fellow classmates.
