Grammar Writing Rubric Grammar Writing Rubric Students will use basic 2nd-5th grade grammar when completing written assignments. This grammar would include: proper capitalization, proper punctuation, spelling, sentence structure, spacing and indentation. Grammar and Mechanics	Poor Spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors create distraction, making reading difficult; fragments, and run-ons are evident. Errors are frequent.	Fair Most spelling (inventive), punctuation, and grammar are correct allowing reader to progress through writing. Some errors remain.	Good Writing has few spelling (inventive), punctuation, and grammatical errors allowing reader to follow ideas clearly. Very few fragments or run-ons.	Outstanding Writing is free of distracting spelling, punctuation, and grammatical errors; absent of fragments and run-ons.
Knowledge	Poor Does not stay on topic, no beginning, middle, and end.	Fair Stays some what on topic, no clear beginning, middle, and end.	Good Stays mostly on topic and is organized with a beginning, middle, and end.	Outstanding Stays on topic and is organized with a beginning, middle, and end.
Format	Poor Fails to follow format; poor spacing, neatness of writing needs attention	Fair Meets format; generally correct spacing. Writing is neat but may have some assembly errors.	Good Meets format; generally correct spacing. Writing is neat and correctly assembled.	Outstanding Meets all format; uses correct spacing. Writing is neat and assembled correctly with professional look.
