A rubric for choice-based projects where students are tasked to determine the details and parameters of a project based on a general direction made by the teacher. This rubric may be applied to individual or group proposals, research project proposals, or projects that require planning or project development.

Fair Problem is unclear or ambiguous. One problem is stated, but not clearly defined or explained. Problem is may or may not be tied to environmental or human health issues.	Good Problem is clearly stated. Only one problem is identified and explained in detail. Problem is tied to environmental or human health issues.	Excellent Problem is clearly stated. More than one possible problem is identified and explained with detail. Problem is tied to environmental and human health issues
Solution	Poor The project proposed is not creative, original or ambitious. Solution is unclear or not present.	Fair The project proposed is somewhat creative, original or ambitious. Students do not provide additional benefits for the solution.	Good The project proposed is original, creative and somewhat ambitious. Students provide some benefits with little detail explaining the benefits.	Excellent The project proposed is very original, creative and ambitious. Students provide a clear solution along with benefits for the solution.
Financial Analysis	Poor Students have an incomplete or missing cost analysis. Student have little or no alternate funding sources for the project.	Fair Students do not have a full cost analysis for the project. Alternate funding sources for the project are limited.	Good Students provide a detailed explanation of the costs associated with the project. Students provide few details on the various sources for funding the project.	Excellent Students provide a detailed explanation of the costs associated with the project. Students provide specific details on various funding sources for the project.
Subject Matter	Poor Students show very little understanding of the subject matter and thoroughly misinterprets the requirements for the class.	Fair Students show some understanding of the subject matter but confusion is evident in some aspects of the proposal or plan.	Good Students show an understanding of the subject matter and it is evident in the execution of the proposal or plan.	Excellent Students show a deep understanding of the subject matter and its greater implications. Proposal or plan shows integration of some advanced or researched concepts.

Good Proposal or plan is well organized, and has a sensible flow and structure. Minor elements may need clarification but otherwise well made and ready for execution.
