Exposition	Exceeds Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of the setting, characters, or conflict. Students has adequate understanding of all parts in the exposition.	Meets Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of the setting, characters, or conflict. Student has adequate understanding of all parts in the exposition.	Below Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of only part of the setting, characters, or conflict. Student has partial understanding of the exposition.	Not Present Student did not include setting, characters, or conflict in their plot structure. Student does not demonstrate an understanding of the exposition.
Descriptive Writing	Exceeds Standard Student show strong evidence creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates complete understanding.	Meets Standard Student show good evidence creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates a good understanding.	Below Standard Student shows fair evidence of creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates partial understanding.	Not Present Students shows minimal creatively descriptive writing and resorts to simple descriptions. Student does not demonstrate an understanding.
Character Traits	Exceeds Standard Student shows strong evidence of demonstrating character traits or emotions rather than describing.	Meets Standard Student demonstrates most of the character's traits or emotions.	Below Standard Student demonstrates some of the character's traits or emotions.	Not Present Student demonstrates few of the character's traits or emotions.
