Writing with Imagery and Sensory Detail Writing with Imagery and Sensory Detail Imagine you have just stepped into the wilderness for the first time. Describe what you see, feel, hear, smell, etc. What are you doing? Do you try to walk around? Do you simply stand and watch? Include this in writing. Imagery	Poor Two or less examples of sensory details using vivid imagery illustrated and partially reflective of scene in the wilderness.	Fair 3-5 examples of sensory details using vivid imagery illustrated and partially reflective of scene from the wilderness.	Good 6 or more examples of sensory details using vivid imagery illustrated and partially reflective of scene from the wilderness.
Interpretation/sensory detail	Poor Writing showed little evidence of mastery of the assignment. The writing did not identify what was happening in the wilderness. Only 1 sense was evoked through the writing.	Fair Writing sample showed partial mastery of the assignment. The writing identified the scene in the wilderness and 2- 3 senses were evoked.	Good Writing clearly defined what was happening in the scene in the wilderness and 3-4 senses were evoked skillfully and with ease.
Verbs and adjectives	Poor Verbs used were more passive (soft) verbs and not active. No adjectives were present in writing.	Fair Some active verbs were used but also some passive verbs. Some use of strong adjectives but there may be some vague language or expected language.	Good Active verbs were used throughout the writing and adjectives are colorful, vivid, and specific.
Grammar/spelling	Poor Frequent errors in grammar throughout writing - enough to be distracting to the reader.	Fair Some minor errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization but not distracting.	Good Rules of grammar and conventions are followed throughout the writing. No obvious or distracting mistakes in capitalization, spelling, punctuation, or verb usage.
Format	Poor No clear format is seen, writing is all over the place and scribble marks are distracting to the reader.	Fair Format is attempted, but some scribble marks are detected.	Good Writing is presented in a clear, readable format with no visible scribble marks.
