The Life Cycle of a Butterfly 
This lesson will cover the life cycle of a butterfly. We will be able to observe the different stages, sequence the life cycle, label the cycles, and write the life cycle in sequential order using complete sentences.

1.Introduction to Unit

Lesson Objective

The objectives of this lesson are that the children will learn the meaning of the word metamorphosis, recognize the stages in a butterfly’s life cycle, be able to classify butterflies by type, color, and food, and learn to ask questions to further their knowledge.
Content Summary

The students will be introduced to the cycle of butterflies by a read aloud book on the stages of a caterpillar. Students will also participate in a group discussion about the topic.
Assessment Strategy

During this lesson, students will be asked to identify each stage in order.
2.Research Process

Gathering information and visuals for assigned project

Lesson Objective

Students will be able to research fun facts about butterflies and watch a visual about the cycle and resources needed for butterflies to grow.
Content Summary

Each student will be given worksheets from online so they can properly work on their mini booklet or mini poster board butterfly life cycle project. By conducting and gathering research and learning from visuals online as well as in class discussion.
Assessment Strategy

Students will be graded on creativity for this project. Students will be able to show basic computer skills and conducting research for their mini project.
3. Content Lesson 1

Reading and Language Arts: Comprehension and Fluency

Lesson Objective

Students will be asked to identify each stage cycle and how can they identify each butterfly. Students will also be able to comprehend what they are learning and explain the cycle.
Content Summary

Each student will check out a book about butterflies and read about the stages and also listen and write down facts from the visual about butterflies online.
Assessment Strategy

Answer and write response to questions. Writes simple sentences. Uses legible handwriting and spelling.
4. Content Lesson 2

Science:
Identify the anatomy of a butterfly, Art activity and defining metamorposis

Lesson Objective

Students will be asked to identify the adult butterfly by shape, size, texture, color. Students will identify and label each body part, for example, the head, abdomen, thorax and wing.
Content Summary

Students will identify and label the body parts of an adult butterfly. As well as defining and learning about the scientifc terms of the anatomy and life cycle of a butterfly on a worksheet from online.
Assessment Strategy

Students will recognize the stages in a butterfly’s life cycle, and be able to classify butterflies by type, color, and food, and learn to ask questions to further their knowledge.
5. Content Lesson 3

Math and Self Reflection:
Online math games , worksheets and poetry and concluded discussion

Lesson Objective

Students willl complete online math actvites involing counting and games. Students will complete a worksheet idetifying symetric lining, labels and shapes. Also answring question about the stages amount and size of a butterfly egg.
Content Summary

Students will identify and create circle shapes and symmetrical lining of a butterfly and design. Students will include poetry by self reflecting on how they describe butterflies in a poem and how students identify the different colors and types of butterflies.
Assessment Strategy

I will evaluate this lesson by looking at the butterflies life cycle worksheets and ask questions to assess their understanding. I will also ask them to discuss with the class what they have learned from this lesson.
