Exposition	Exceeds Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of the setting, characters, or conflict. Students has adequate understanding of all parts in the exposition.	Meets Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of the setting, characters, or conflict. Student has adequate understanding of all parts in the exposition.	Below Standard Student demonstrates knowledge of only part of the setting, characters, or conflict. Student has partial understanding of the exposition.	Not Present Student did not include setting, characters, or conflict in their plot structure. Student does not demonstrate an understanding of the exposition.
Descriptive Writing	Exceeds Standard Student show strong evidence creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates complete understanding.	Meets Standard Student show good evidence creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates a good understanding.	Below Standard Student shows fair evidence of creatively descriptive writing. Student demonstrates partial understanding.	Not Present Students shows minimal creatively descriptive writing and resorts to simple descriptions. Student does not demonstrate an understanding.
Setting	Exceeds Standard Student describes a vivid setting that appeals to all 5 senses.	Meets Standard Students describes an exciting setting that appeals to most of the senses.	Below Standard Student describes a mediocre setting that only appeals to a couple senses.	Not Present Student describes a boring setting with no appeal to the 5 senses.
