The response is unclear, answer does not clearly respond to the article/topic.
INCOMPLETE

The writing is completely off-topic.
#2. Quote Usage and Paraphrase

EXCELLENT

2-3 quotes are used from the article to enhance ideas. Quotes chosen are explained in a way that further supports student's writing on that topic. Other parts of the writing is clearly in the students own words.
GOOD

A quote is used and is satisfactorily supported within the student's writing. The paraphrased information is satisfactory and requires further examples to explain ideas.
FAIR

Information provided is generally accurate but no insight is offered. Student's writing show difficulty to use quotes and paraphrase with a purpose.
INCOMPLETE

It is evident that the student did not read the article or understand the topic as demonstrated in their writing. Student's response is not original. It is evident their writing was greatly influence by another student or the article is plagiarized.
#3. Organization & Mechanics

EXCELLENT

Writing is fluent and interesting to read. Discussion is backed up with evidence from the text. Entry is to the point, in complete sentences, free of spelling errors and uses correct grammar. Text messaging language is not used.
GOOD

Writing is fluent, but not interesting; discussion could be supported more strongly, spelling errors are minimal and grammar is mostly accurate. Text messaging language is not used.
FAIR

Writing is choppy and unclear. Student's response is 3-4 sentences long. Text messaging style is sometimes used in writing.
INCOMPLETE

Response is too brief. Student's response is 1-2 sentences long. A majority of the writing is in text messaging style.
