Vocabulary Flower

Student will extend their vocabulary by completing a dictionary worksheet. Student is going to then create a vocabulary flower. In the pistil of the flower, the student will write the vocabulary word chosen. The petals will be the synonyms of the word. Lastly, the stem will have the definition of the word. The vocabulary word must come from the current book they are reading and must be an unknown word.

Good Student chose a vocabulary that is appropriate and do not know the definition of.	Exemplary Student chose a challenging vocabulary word that they have never heard of.
Synonyms (Petals)	Poor Student has no synonyms on petals.	Fair Student has 2-3 petals with synonyms.	Good Student has at least 4 petals with synonyms.	Exemplary Student has more than 4 synonyms that are challenging words.
Definition (Stem)	Poor Student has no definition on stem.	Fair Student has a made up definition on stem.	Good Student has a dictionary-based definition on the stem.	Exemplary Student has a paraphrased definition from the dictionary, showing understanding of the word.
Dictionary Understanding (worksheet	Poor Student does not know how to use dictionary or complete worksheet.	Fair Student understands how to use a dictionary and complete worksheet with assistance.	Good Student can use a dictionary with little help and complete worksheet.	Exemplary Student understands how to use a dictionary with no help and completes worksheet.
