Students will research a famous historical figure, report on the events that surround his or her life, report on the actions of that person which inlfuenced history.

FORMAT

Biography must contain all elements of a written biography paper (e.g. Title Page, Bibliography, etc)

Biography is less than four paragraphs and/or is missing several key elements (e.g. bibliography, title page, etc.).

Biography contains most of the key elements and is at least five paragraphs in length.
Good

Biography contains all necessary elements including title page, image of the subject, and a bibliography. Biography is also a minimum of five paragraphs in length.
RESEARCH

Students will conduct research on the historical figure using a minimum of three resources of varying types (e.g. books, encyclopedias, internet, etc...).

Student does minimal research, using only one or two source materials.

Student uses a minimum of three sources of material for research, but does not vary source material.

Students will properly cite research material using a bibliography.

Student does not use a bibliography and/or does not properly cite source material.
Fair

Student uses a bibliography but has made some mistakes in properly formatting citation of source material.
Good

Student properly cites a minimum of three sources of material in their bibliography.
SEQUENCING

Students will put events in a chronological time order: birth, life events, death.

Poor

Biography does not follow a chronological time order and is confusing to reader the timeline of events.
Fair

Biography generally follows a chronological time line, but may have one or two events out of order.
Good

Biography follows a chronological time line.
INFORMATION

Biography must include the historical figure's: family information, his or her life events, historical choices, effects of his or her life in history.

Poor

Student includes sparse information about the person's life and importance of his or her place in history.
Fair

Student has some missing information on person's life and/or does not explain relevance of their place n history.

Student includes ALL required information on person's life and describes the importance of their place in history.
