News Cast Novel Study Rubric

Choose an event in the story to write a live news cast about. Remember, this is live; almost everything will be in present tense! You can get creative and add details that are not in the novel, however, the overall report should be true the the plot, character, and setting of the book. Please include both a written script and a video presentation of your work.

Writer does not demonstrate distinct style.	Poor No original thought put into the article/report. Minimal requirements not met.
Script	Excellent There are few errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. Format is correct.	Good There are some distracting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc., but overall meaning is still clear.	Fair There are many distracting errors in spelling, grammar, punctuation, etc. Format is not entirely correct.	Poor There are several severe errors in spelling, grammar, puntuation, etc. that are distracting to the reader. The format is completely incorrect.
Content	Excellent News story is directly related to the plot, characters, and setting of the book. Viewers are inspired to read the book by the details that are given.	Good News story is generally related to the plot, characters, and setting of the book. Viewers are somewhat inspired to read the book by the details that are given. Performance	Excellent The reporter appears to have rehearsed and the performance flows smoothly. Eye contact is consistent, reading is limited to glances, and language is clear and professional.	Good The reporter is not well organized. Appears that they have had minimal rehearsal, reads from notes, eye contact is not consistent, and language could be clearer.	Fair The reporter is very unorganized. The reporter reads the entire story, has limited eye contact, and language is not clear.	Poor The reporter shows no previous preparation.
