Respect to Others	Needs Work Causes distractions while others are speaking. Attention visibly wanders and student makes noise or interrupts while peers are speaking.	Good Is quiet while debate goes on, even if attention wanders. Does not cause distractions and visibly listens at least part of the time.	Excellent Actively listens to peer presentations. Facial expressions and body language show attention is focused on the debate.
Gathers Information	Needs Work Takes few to no notes on debate.	Good Takes notes on most of the debate without noting personal opinions or thoughts.	Excellent Takes detailed notes on entire debate, including noting personal opinions or thoughts.
Identifies Quality Arguments	Needs Work Does not identify or label any evidence presented as either strong or weak. Cannot identify any arguments or evidence presented.	Good Identifies some arguments as strong or weak, but cannot explain rationale.	Excellent Identifies most or all arguments and labels them as strong or weak. Rationale is fully explained.
Reflection on Debate	Needs Work Offers summary or opinion of debate that is totally off topic.	Good Offers summary or opinion of debate that is related but may miss some of the key evidence presented.	Excellent Offers clear summary of information heard or opinion that is based on evidence or rationale presented.
