Students will demonstrate their knowledge of paragraph organization by writing an essay utilizing the writing process of planning, organizing, writing, evaluating and presenting the essay in relation to their reaction on the piece.

Response to Prompt 10 pts	Effective Presents a clearly focused main idea.	Adequate Uses the assigned topic to establish a main idea.	Marginal Addresses the assigned topic, though the focus may shift.	Below Marginal Attempts to address assigned topic but with little or no focus.	Inadequate Does not attempt to address assigned topic.
Organization 10 pts	Effective Establishes a clear and logical organization.	Adequate Uses an identifiable organizational plan.	Marginal Shows some evidence of an organizational plan.	Below Marginal Fails to organize ideas.	Inadequate Contains no organization or ideas.
Introduction 10 pts	Effective The introduction is inviting, states the main topic, and previews the structure of the paper.
