Memoir

Students will narrate a personal memoir. The memoir should focus on the relationship of a person/place/thing and/or relate an event that had a substantial impact on the memoirist. The memoir must include effective use of dialogue, and a reflection, as well as a compelling lead paragraph and a memorable concluding paragraph.

Satisfactory Information is organized into a narrative with paragraphs that follow a sequence; unbalanced dialogue, narration and action. 8 points.	Fair There is some organization, but may be difficult to follow at times. Autobiographical with a spattering of narrative elements. 6 points.	Poor There is an absence of narrative elements or an over-emphasis on informational text. Written like an autobiography. 4 points.
Voice 10 pts	Excellent Style is natural and flows well. Tone matches topic. Diction suits memoir, is used appropriately/ at appropriate times. 10 points.	Satisfactory Tone matches topic of memoir; style is natural; some slang, but does not distract greatly. 8 points.	Fair Diction is often informal. Tone does not always match topic of memoir; does not read well 6 points.	Poor Writer's diction is too informal/too much slang; tone does not match topic of memoir; takes away from the essay. 4 points.

Fair Was told in consistent person, but did not meet the minimum page requirement. 6 points.	Poor Did not meet the page requirement and was not told in consistent person narrative style. 4 points.
