The student is able to recognize the concept of phoneme and reproduce their sounds.

Recognizes Some concept of phonemes but, can not reproduce the sound.
Beginning

Does not recognize phonemes and does not reproduce their sounds.
Phoneme Isolation

The student is able to separate individual phonemes and reproduce their sounds independently of other phonemes.

Proficient

Separates individual phonemes and reproduces their sounds independently of other phonemes.
ex: hat __(/h/)
Developing

Separates SOME individual phonemes and reproduces their sounds independently of other phonemes.
Beginning

Does not separate individual phonemesand does not reproduce their individual sound.( No attempt)
Phoneme Blending

The student is able to recognize and blend different phonemes to produce new sounds.

Proficient

Segments beginning, medial and final phonemes in spoken words and blends phonemes.
ex: /b/…at __ (bat)
Developing

Identifies Some sounds in spoken words & phonemes to words
(After hearing segmented phonemes, some attempts to produce a word correct).
Beginning

Does not identify sounds in spoken words or blend spoken phonemes to make words (No attempt or an unsuccessful attempt to produce a word after hearing a segmented (phonemes).
Phoneme Segmentation

The student is able to recognize and say the different syllable sounds in words.

Proficient

Segments syllables in spoken words producing beginning, middle, and end sound.

Developing

Segments some syllables in spoken words, either beginning and middle or middle and end.

Does not blend or segment syllables in spoken words or inconsistent in task completion.
Phoneme Counting

The student is able to recognize how many different sounds a word contains.

Proficient

Recognizes how many different sounds a word contains, by clapping their hand to each sound.
Developing

Recognizes SOME of the different sounds a word contains, by clapping their hands to some of the sounds.
Beginning

Does not recognize any of the sounds a word contains.
Phoneme Deletion

The student is able to remove a phoneme and say the new word.

Proficient

Is able to remove a initial sound and say the new word. rat-/r/ {at}
Developing

Removes SOME of the initial sound and say the new word.
Beginning

Does not remove a initial sound and say the new word.
Phoneme Substitution

The student is able to replace phonemes and say the new word.

Proficient

Has the ability to replace a phoneme in a word with another phoneme to form a new word.
Developing

Replaces SOME phonemes in a word to make a new word.
Beginning

DOES Not have the ability to replace phonemes in a word to create new words.
Phoneme Reversal

When the order of sounds is reversed the student will be able to recognize and say the new sounds.

Proficient

Reverses the beginning sound of a word to the end and says the new word. (pit>tip)
Developing

Reverses SOME of the beginning sounds of a word to the end and says some of the words.
Beginning

Removes the beginning sound but DOES NOT say any of the new words.
