Planning
Excellence 4
Student utilized time to plan his/her sculpture: detail sketches of insect type, mechanical aspects and final vision are laid out. Planning for attachment of objects has been tested
Proficient 3
Student used planning time to create a full concept of their end product. Insects, mechanical parts and details are laid out. Some planning for attachments but has not tested ideas
Achieving 2
Student used planning time to create a concept of their end product. Insects, mechanical parts are laid out, but little to no planning for actual attachment
Developing 1
Student did not utilize time to create a detailed plan, that created obstacles during building
Concept
Excellence 4
Student successfully embraced the concept and applied the ideas of steampunk to the entire insect.
Proficient 3
Student understands concept and had success applying ideas but a few areas lack tie-in
Achieving 2
Student understands concept and is putting to practice this understanding. Some minor issues with whole-project tie-in
Developing 1
Student has limited success merging concepts. More work is needed for successful final project
Balance and form
Excellence 4
The work presented incorporates a balanced composition of 1, 3 or 5 dragonflies, pond plant fauna or water eco- system, is 3D and uses a variety of materials (at least 5), collage, clay, tissue, stamps, medium, wire, chain, gears, etc. painted creatively in steam punk style.
Proficient 3
The work presented incorporates a somewhat balanced composition of 1, 3 or 5 dragonflies, pond plant fauna or water eco- system, is 3D and uses a variety of materials (at least 3), collage, clay, tissue, stamps, medium, wire, chain, gears, etc. painted creatively in steam punk style.
Achieving 2
The work presented is limited in balance, somewhat of a water eco- system, is 3D and uses a limited variety of materials and/or not painted creatively in steam punk style.
Developing 1
The work presented is un -balanced, uses a limited variety of materials and/ not painted creatively and not in steam punk style.
Unity and texture
Excellence 4
The end piece has a cohesiveness that creates flow and seamless viewing. The mechanical aspects create multiple textures on the surface of the piece.
Proficient 3
The piece has a cohesiveness to it that helps the viewer scan whole iece without stopping on one particular area. Texture is brought out of the mechanical elements but more could be done to create flow in the work.
Achieving 2
Student used planning time to create a concept of their end product. Insect is identifiable and the idea of Steampunk is suggested
Developing 1
Overall cohesiveness is missing and or lacking in the final piece: texture is not strong.
3PR
Excellence 4
Student was able to solve this visual art problem through preparatory work, thus created a strong final piece. (ie creating dragonflies in an interesting manner - clay, wire, glue, plaster, etc)
Proficient 3
Student generated a variety of solutions to the visual art problem through prep work although finished piece lacked some strength.
Achieving 2
Student was able to overcome design original design problems through prep work, although the final piece was limited.
Developing 1
Student struggled to overcome design issues through prep work.
