Character Choice

Great!

The student chose to analyze and characterize a main character/ main characters.
Good

The student chose a main character, but either didn't focus on that one character, OR also characterized some minor characters.
Needs Work

The student chose only a minor character to characterize/ analyze, OR chose all minor characters.
Character Analysis/ Description

Great!

The student shows knowledge of the character by accurately depicting them and their traits. Each trait shows clear direct and indirect characterization of the major characters.
Good

The student shows knowledge of the character however they name 1 or 2 traits that aren't accurate. OR The student writes 1 or 2 things that aren't what the character would say/ do.
Needs Work

The student's characterization shows no knowledge of the character. OR The ideas the student writes do not relate to anything that happened in the story.
Quotes/Evidence

Great!

All quotes are relevant and clearly illustrate the character traits of the chosen character. Quotes are explained thoroughly and reveal accurate information about the character.
Good

Most quotes are relevant for each body part or component mentioned. Some could use more explaining to clarify.
Needs Work

Many of the quotes are indirectly cited without page numbers, and do not make sense when describing the character.
Presentation/ Appearance

Great!

The project clearly shows effort: it is clean, decorated, and neat. The student presented it in a confident manner.
Good

The project shows some effort but could use more work: it is not decorated as nice as it could be, a bit sloppy, and perhaps crinkled. The student presented but spoke softly or was unclear.
Needs Work

The project shows little to no effort: it is not decorated, is completely in pencil (and it wasn't an artistic choice), and is messy. The student did not present.
