Lacking proficiency

Poem is just under 20 words, does not flow, and is hard to follow for the majority of it. Poet ignored any edits suggested by the editor. Poem has 3-4 grammar or spelling mistakes.
Below Minimum Standard

Poem is less than twenty words, does not naturally flow at all, and has over 4 distracting spelling and grammar mistakes. Poet ignored all responses from the editors.
Higher Order Thinking

Excellent

- Poems show the student has put a great deal of thought into what he/she writes
- The ideas are complex and clear
Good

- Poems are good and show the writer is thinking deeply about ways of approaching the topic of his/her poem.
Average

- Student has a complete entry, but may not be pushing his/her ideas toward original ways of thinking.
Lacking proficiency

- Entry feels rushed and lacks much depth of thought
- Student needs to put more effort into pushing his/her ideas to a deeper level

- Entry is simplistic and is a surface-level interpretation of the topic of his/her poem

Excellent

Student shows ability to include mood, tone, and irony in his/her poem. Not only this, but the student does so in a clever and complex way.
Good

Student shows ability to include mood, tone, and irony is his/her poem. Majority of these aspects shown are done so in a complex way.
Average

Student shows ability to include mood, tone, and irony is his/her poem, but little complexity was used.
Lacking proficiency

The student only included 2 out of 3 of the aspects they were supposed to in their poem, and these aspects were displayed only by surface level thinking.
Below Minimum Standard

The student included 1 or none of the aspects they were supposed to in their poem
