The tempo and rhythm are consistent. The melody is mostly smooth and clear.
Developing

The tempo and rhythm are sometimes unclear and/or slow down and speed up. The melody is apparent in some places but unclear in others.
Beginning

The song is choppy with an unnatural mix of tempo. The melody of the song is unclear.
Lyrics

A set of words, phrases or sounds that make up a song.

Innovating

The lyrics are meaningful to the artists, flow with the melody and connect to the overall song.

The lyrics are meaningful and connect to the music.

The lyrics are starting to flow with the melody.

The song has the minimum requirement of 2 verses. The chorus is complete with at least 4 lines to it.

The song has at least one completed verse. The chorus is mostly complete.

The song has one or no verses and the chorus is only a line or two.
Audience's Response

How the audience of your peers react to your song.

Innovating

You have a hit on your hands. Students laugh out loud, hoot, clap, dance and give enormous praise to your song. They may even seek copies of your masterpiece.
Applying

The audience interacts with the song through body movement, laughter, talk or dance. Many comments follow the playing of the song.
Developing

Some peers may tap their foot, smile occasionally and nod to the rhythm. They make a few comments, but not many.
Beginning

The song has little or no impact on your peers. They sit and listen quietly, but have very little to say about it.
