Character Trait Analysis

Write how how the character is identified and what his/her traits are in the beginning of the story using examples and textual evidence to prove your analysis. Write how the character changes and is portrayed in the middle of the story using examples and textual evidence. Show how the character has evolved and has changed in the end of the story by using examples and textual evidence. In the conclusion show what you have learned from this character.

Supporting Evidence	Emerging The evidence strongly and insightfully supports the interpretation. Evidence is clearly stated and more than two citations to the text.	Developing The evidence accurately supports the interpretation. Two citations are included, but not always clearly connected to the interpretation	Efficient The evidence somewhat supports the interpretation. Two citations are sometimes included to support the interpretation and connection to the interpertation is not always clear.	Commendable The evidence does not clearly support the interpretation. Application of Character	Emerging Character interpretation is extended beyond explanation through detailed elaboration. A conclusion is made and explained sufficiently to connect character to plot.	Developing Interpretation is extended through brief elaboration and connected to plot, but the explanation is unclear and difficult to understand.	Efficient Interpretation is not extended beyond the explanation and support. A logical connection is made between character and plot, however, the explanation is brief and insufficient in order for the reader to fully understand the connection.	Commendable Interpretation is not extended beyond the explanation and support. No connection is made to plot, or connection does not follow logically from character interpretation.
Introduction	Emerging Introduction includes brief overview of story and introduces character. Grabs the readers attention	Developing Introduction tells about character. Brief overview of story but does not flow together smoothly.	Efficient Introduction lacks overview and creativity.	Commendable Introduction very basic with no supporting information or evidence.
Mechanics/MLA format	Emerging Fewer than three mechanical errors. All MLA format criteria met.	Developing Fewer than five mechanical errors. All MLA format criteria met.	Efficient Mechanical errors interfere with effectiveness of paper.<BR> MLA format criteria used.	Commendable Mechanical errors interfere with readability of paper.
