Original Short Story

Students will create an original short story, be creative the story can be about anything (keep it appropriate). The story must have 2 main characters, a definite beginning, middle, and end, and your story must have a clear theme and clear conflict. Keep your short stories short and to the point (1 1/2 to 2 pages).

The main characters are named and described using some direct and indirect techniques. *Most readers would have some idea of what the characters are like.	Basic The story has 1 main character. It is hard to tell who the main character is and there is little or no use of direct or indirect characterization techniques.
Plot Structure	Excellent The story has definite beginning, middle, and end. The story is very well organized. One idea or scene follows another in a logical sequence with clear transitions. *All sentences are well-constructed with varied and interesting structure patterns.	Good The story has only two definite sequence (beginning, middle, and unclear end). The story is pretty well organized. One idea or scene may seem out of place. Clear transitions are used. *Most sentences are well-constructed with varied and interesting structure patterns.	Basic The story has only 1 definite sequence ( a beginning but no clear middle or end). Ideas and scenes seem to be randomly arranged. *Sentences lack structure and appear incomplete or rambling.
Theme	Excellent Shows a thorough understanding of the theme. Student uses creative and original ideas to create an interesting and unique story.
