Informative-Explanatory Writing 
Students will write an essay on an assigned topic. Essays must include the following components: introduction, thesis, body paragraphs, transitions, conclusion. After the rough draft of the essay is completed you will peer edit your document and then implement revisions for your final draft.

Language, Vocabulary, Punctuation

Excellent

The response clearly expresses ideas, using precise language. Use of academic and domain specific vocabulary is appropriate. Effective use of punctuation, capitalization, spelling.
Proficient

The response adequately expresses ideas. Adequate use of vocabulary, punctuation, capitalization, spelling.
Needs Improvement

The response expresses ideas unevenly using simplistic language. Inconsistent use of punctuation, capitalization, spelling.
Poor

The response's ideas lacks clarity or is confusing. Punctuation errors are frequent.
Conclusion

Concluding paragraph summarizes the thesis and main points. It provides the audience with a ponder by connecting the paper.
