Response	Area of Improvement Student did not include a response to the book that was read.	Good Student included a partial response with limited details of the book that was read. Answering some items needed for a readers response.	Excellent Student included a detailed response to the book that was read. Student used details directly from the story to support opinions/ student wrote about theme, conflict, or character development.
Quantity	Area of Improvement Less than a 1/2 page or less that are on topic.	Good 1/2 page of well crafted sentences that are on topic.	Excellent 3/4 page or full page or more of well crafted sentences that are on topic.
Grammar	Area of Improvement 5+ errors in capitalization or punctuation. 6+ misspelled words in students written response.	Good 3-4 errors in capitalization or punctuation at the end of sentences. 4-6 misspelled words in students written response.	Excellent 0-2 errors in capitalization or punctuation in a sentence. 0-3 misspelled words in students written response.
Neatness and Effort	Area of Improvement Illegible handwriting in parts, sentences are not on the lines.	Good Some sloppiness in handwriting, looks rushed, some letters/words are off the lines.	Excellent Handwriting is neat, student used lines as a guide.
