Students are to write an essay using two songs of their choice and use them as poems. They were to compare and contrast the two poems for the author's themes/meanings, author's tone, and sensory imagery.

Organization	Effective Establishes a clear and logical organization using proper essay structure. Essay has multiple paragraphs: introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion.	Sufficient Uses an identifiable organizational plan. with proper essay structure. Essay may only have 2 paragraphs but has a clear introduction and conclusion.	Unsatisfactory Fails to organize ideas.
Development & Details	Effective Achieves coherent development with a topic sentence, specific and relevant details and examples from both songs/poems. Accurately develops author's theme/meaning, author's tone, and author's use of sensory imagery.	Sufficient Has focused but occasionally uneven development; incorporates a topic sentence with some specific detail from both texts. Develops, although it may not have specific details or details from both texts.	Unsatisfactory Demonstrates little or no development; usually lacks details or examples or presents irrelevant information. May only address 1 or none of the given topics. No topic sentence.
