The Great Hero Paper Rubric

This is an MLA, 5+ paragraph format essay. Students are to prove the greatest mythological hero of all time by taking the hero through one of the hero patterns and also by showing an appropriate literary device (or more) that also supports this idea (archetype, theme, symbolism, etc.)

The Hero Paper This is a rubric for a paper on the hero, his myth, his hero cycle, and his criticisms or on his archetypes, symbols, and themes

An attempt was made, however and the student did try. 10 pts	Good Student has mastered this skill and is doing well. 15 pts	Excellent Student has mastered this area and gone beyond what is required. Student is clearly advanced in this skill. 20 pts
Five+ Paragraph Essay Structure Intro: Essay should include an introduction to the prompt, a brief summary of the hero & myth explored as well as a thorough thesis statement, including essay purpose as well as points made within the essay body. Body: Each should cover a point to be made that was introduced in the thesis statement & follow the PEAL structure appropriately. Conclusion: Include a thorough summary of the all the points made within the paper and a final statement of the essay purpose.	Poor	Fair	Good	Excellent

Parenthetical Citations/Works Cited Essay appropriately follows MLA formatted citation expectations in a formal paper. 1 additional myth version references E. Hamilton MYTHOLOGY book Prompt 1= Campbell/Raglan references scholars on symbol, archetype, &/or theme. TOTAL= 6 resources+ listed on your Works Cited & parenthetically cited within your paper. Conventions & MLA formatting Spelling, Grammar, Mechanics, Style, Organization, etc. are all important. Watch especially subject-verb agreement, pronoun-antecedent agreement, verb tense, and comma use. Be sure you are using the correct voice. This is a formal paper! No use of "I" or "You" is permitted!
