ONE
The paper exhibits incoherent tendencies. The writer generates much less prose than other writers on the same topic. It makes similar mistakes as a paper 2 but more extreme. The paper has consistent problems. Writing is immature, and lacks development of ideas. There is little to no support. The paper lacks unity, and coherence. The structure is awkward and flawed, and the diction and syntax do not conform to norms of American English.
TWO
The paper is generally poor. It demonstrates an inability to move beyond a superficial level, or reach a college-level anaylsis. The writer has difficulty producing meaningful, properly constructed, clear, and grammiticaly correct sentences. Language is childish, and spelling, punctuation, and syntax errors are consistent making the paper difficult to understand.
THREE
The paper is inadequate. The content in the paper is fair. Repitition seems to result from the writer's inability to provide supporting material. The paper may contain fragments, run-ons, and comma splices. Language is immature. Most problems are in usage and syntax. Spelling Errors and the misuse of the apostrophe are often conspicuous.
FOUR
This essay is adequate. The paper is organized. Sentence structure is not perfect, but it varies and exhibits few problems with run-ons and fragments. It doesn't include consistent errors. It is not wordy or repetitive. Vocabulary ranges from average to superior. It lacks details, in-depth analysis, definition of key concepts, descriptions, imaginative sentences, graceful language. It may excel in one of these areas, it is weak in others.
FIVE
This paper is good. The essay demonstrates thoughtful content, and strong organization. Transitions are smooth. The language is mature, and makes skillful use of coordinating and subordinating devices. Language is appropriate but may lack grace, flair, the voice, or the sense of audience. The paper may have awkward sentences sometimes, or inconsitences. Mechanical errors are few and minor.
SIX
This paper is sophisticated. The paper responds well to the assignment, showing a clear and specific thesis and logical order. The development is consistent and provides interesting and specific support. It cites personal experience, and past and current events that are significant. Mature and varied sentence structure, sophisticated language, and use of the active voice. All evidence shows abiltiy to relate to set audience. Usage, syntax, and mechanical errors are rare.
