Conics Section Project
Using graph paper, create an image using the major conic sections we have learned about in class: ellipse, circle, hyperbola, parabola. You need to have at least 8 conics in you image. You may also use lines to complete the image. Each conic section must then have a correct equation to match it. You will also need to write the equation of any lines as well. Creativity, color and accuracy are important.

Conics Drawn

Use at least 8 conics to create your image. Remember that a hyperbola has two parts but counts as one conic.

Poor

1-3 Conics are drawn on the image.
Fair

3-5 Conics are drawn on the image.
Good

6-7 Conics are drawn on the image.
Excellent

8 or more conics are drawn on the image.
Conics Equations

Each conic section drawn must have a correct equation to match. At least 8 conics and unlimited lines.

Poor

1-3 Equations match the conics drawn.
Fair

3-5 Equations match the conics drawn.
Good

6-7 Equations match the conics drawn.
Excellent

8 or more Equations match the conics drawn.
Equation Accuracy

All equations should be accurate and match the image drawn. Number all Equations and image or provide description next to equations.

Poor

5 or more errors are noted in the equations. NO clear connections between the image and the equations.
Fair

5 or fewer errors are noted in the equations. NO clear connection between the image and the equations.
Good

1-5 Errors are noted in the equations. Clearly marked to show what part of the image they correlate with.
Excellent

No errors in equations and they are clearly marked to show what part of the image they correlate with.
Creativity

Do not duplicate example images provided. Be sure that the conic shape is accurate and creates an image easily identifiable.

Poor

Lacks creativity and more than 4 errors are noted in conic shapes.
Fair

Clear image is shown but lacks creativity. Some errors are noted in conic shapes.
Good

Image shows creativity and a clear image. 1-2 errors in conic shapes.
Excellent

Image shows creativity, clear image and appropriate use of shapes developed by conics.
Color and Neatness

Use colors effectively and is pleasing to the eye.

Poor

No color used in image. Image is not appealing.
Fair

Color is limited and shows no forethought. Image is sloppy in some areas.
Good

Color choice shows forethought. A few areas of the image are sloppy.
Excellent

Color choice shows forethought and adds to the over all quality of the image. Image is clear with no sloppy areas.
