Identify the Genre	Poor Student is unable to identify the correct genre of the text.	Fair Student is able to identify the correct genre of the text when provided with teacher questions to guide their thinking.	Good Student are able to correctly identify the genre of a given text independently.
Identify Sub-Genre	Poor Student is unable to identify the correct sub-genre. Cannot make association with the correct genre even when provided clues.	Fair Student is able to identify the correct sub-genre when provided clues presented by the teacher.	Good Student is able to to identify the correct sub-genre independently. Student able to make correct association to related genre.
Explanation	Poor Student is unable to explain genre and sub-genre choice by citing text evidence.	Fair Student is able to explain genre and sub-genre choice by citing text evidence when provided with teacher questions.	Good Student is able to explain genre and sub-genre choice independently. Student is able to cite text evidence to support choices.
