Correctly positions neonate to facilitate opening the airway	Poor Student does not position the neonate correctly.	Fair Has to be prompted to position the neonate correctly.	Good Positions head and neck to open airway successfully.
Suctions upper airway in correct order	Poor Student does not suction.	Fair Needs prompting, OR suctions but not in correct order.	Good Student suctions without prompting, and does so correctly.
Dry and stimulate baby	Poor Student forgets to dry and stimulate the infant.	Fair Needs prompting to dry and stimulate.	Good Appropriately dries the infant, AND appropriately provides tactile stimulation.
Begin PPV at appropriate rate & PIP	Poor Student does not recognize the need to provide PPV.	Fair Needs prompting to provide appropriate rate and PIP.	Good Successfully provides PPV with appropriate rate and PIP. Verbalizes the need to assure adequate chest rise.
Recommend intervention for respiratory support at 1 minute of life	Poor Student does not recommend appropriate intervention.	Fair Needs prompting to provide continued respiratory support.	Good Student recommends appropriate intervention.
