Essay Rubric 
Each Student will write an essay on a theme from the novel. I will handout a list of all the various themes, and the students will choose one from the list provided.

*Beginning understanding of theme. *Can kind of see where the writer is headed. *Has a little difficulty going from general observations to specifics. *Ideas are reasonably clear. *Support is attempted.
Good

*The reader knows the theme and how it correlates with the novel. *Shows insight, engagement, purpose, and knowledge of the material. *Relevant and telling. *The topic is enlightening, purposeful, and makes a point.
Organization
