Recorder Assessment Recorder Assessment This rubric will be used with individual students for a performance assessment and determine if the student has earned a recorder belt. Students earn a belt by a score of 16/20. Rubric Code: N7A2X2 By jbales Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Music Type: Assessment Grade Levels: K-5

Recorder Performance Test
	Unsatisfactory 1 pts	Beginning 2 pts	Developing 3 pts	Excellent 4 pts
Use of correct fingering	Unsatisfactory Students play with the right hand on top and do not play with correct fingerings.	Beginning Students play with the left hand on top some of the time, need reminders most of the time and do not play with the correct fingerings.	Developing Students plays with left hand on top some of the time but is given reminders when playing. And they make correct fingerings for each note	Excellent Student plays with left hand on top every time and makes correct fingerings for each note.
Rhythmic Accuracy	Unsatisfactory Song is not rhythmically recognizable. No steady beat or steady rhythmic patterns.	Beginning Song is somewhat rhythmically recognizable. Steady beat is consistent but some rhythmic patterns are missed.	Developing Song is rhythmically recognizable. Steady beat is consistent. Rhythmic patterns are steady.	Excellent Song is rhythmically recognizable. Steady beat is consistent. Rhythmic patterns are accurate throughout.
Melodic Accuracy	Unsatisfactory Song is not recognizable. Most notes/pitches are missed.	Beginning Song is somewhat recognizable. Some notes/pitches are missed.	Developing Song is recognizable. Few notes/pitches are missed.	Excellent Song is recognizable. No notes/pitches are missed. Played almost perfect.
Tone (squeaking)	Unsatisfactory Song cannot be heard because of squeaks. Poor posture and breathing. Does not demonstrate a light tonguing ("doo" sound)	Beginning Many squeaks interrupt the song.
