Body Paragraphs Paragraphs Students write a minimum of 3 paragraphs using 1 of 4 topic choices. Must include topic sentences and supporting details for each paragraph. Each paragraph must be a minimum of 4 sentences in length. Spelling and grammar must be correct. Topic Sentences	Excellent Student has a very strong topic sentence at the beginning of each sentence that clearly states the information that will be included in the paragraph.	Good Student has a topic sentence for each paragraph that the reader can tell is about the topic.	Fair Student's topics are difficult to understand how they connect to each paragraph.	Needs Improvement Student's subject isn't on topic.
Supporting Details	Excellent Paragraphs have strong supporting sentences that are clearly connected to the topic of each paragraph.	Good Each paragraph has clear supporting sentences that are on topic.	Fair Paragraphs contain some supporting details, but they are not all clear how they support the topic.	Needs Improvement Paragraph is missing supporting sentences.
Spelling/grammar	Excellent Minimum errors in conventions (spelling, grammar) that do not take away from the meaning of the topic.	Good Conventions (spelling, grammar) errors are fewer than 4.	Fair Conventions (spelling, grammar) large errors, but topic is still able to be understood.	Needs Improvement Conventions errors take away from the meaning of the topic. It is hard to understand the writing due to large errors in conventions.
Structure	Excellent Each paragraph includes a minimum of 4 sentences. There are a minimum of 3 paragraphs and there is a clear flow to the structure.	Good Each paragraph includes 4 sentences, but the paragraph structure is unclear.	Fair A few errors in paragraph and sentence requirements.	Needs Improvement Directions on formatting were not followed - multiple errors in structure.
Rough Draft/Editing/Revising	Excellent Rough draft was clearly edited and revised using required elements.	Good Rough draft was edited and revised, but there is not a clear use of required elements.	Fair Rough draft was barely edited and revised - more effort could've been put into this step.	Needs Improvement Rough draft was not edited or revised.
