Good The essay is descriptive with a clear focus. More specific details are needed.	Above Average The essay is descriptive with a clear focus and specific details.
Organization	Poor The beginning, middle, and ending all run together. Paragraphs and transitions are needed.	Below Average The beginning and ending is weak. The middle needs a paragraph for each main point. More transitions are needed.	Good The essay is divided into a beginning, middle, and ending. Some transitions are used.	Above Average The beginning interests the reader. The middle supports the focus. The ending works well. Transitions are used.
Voice	Poor The writer sounds unsure.	Below Average The writer sometimes sounds unsure.	Good The writer's voice sounds well-informed most of the time.	Above Average The writer's voice sounds knowledgeable and confident.
Word Choice	Poor General or missing words make this essay hard to understand the description.	Below Average Too many general words are used. Specific nouns and verbs are needed.
