Super Hero Essay Super Hero Essay The student will write an essay about their hero. The essay will identify the hero and tell why that person is their hero. 	Exemplary - A 4 pts	Proficient - B 3 pts	Making Progress - C 2 pts	Not Yet - D 1 pts
Story/Essay	Exemplary - A Grabs the readers interest right away in the first sentence with creative word choice and in the introduction paragraph identifies the congressional power.	Proficient - B Grabs the readers interest somewhere within the first paragraph and identifies the power.	Making Progress - C Attempts to grab the readers interest in the first paragraph, but is not quite able, and power is somewhat identified.	Not Yet - D The introduction does not grab the readers interest and doesn't identify the hero.
Specific Examples	Exemplary - A Includes at least 3 facts or specific examples of why this power is important includes 3 or more sentences with details to truly explain each example.	Proficient - B Includes at least 2 specific examples of why this power is important and includes 2 or more sentences with details for each example.	Making Progress - C Includes at least 1 specific example of why this power is important and 1 or more sentences with details for the example.	Not Yet - D Attempts to provide an example with details about their power.
Grammar and Mechanics	Exemplary - A No grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors.	Proficient - B Almost no grammatical, spelling, or punctuation erros.	Making Progress - C A few grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors.	Not Yet - D Many grammatical, spelling, or punctuation errors.
Super Hero design/title	Exemplary - A The title and picture are creative, colorful, and indicate the congressional power	Proficient - B The title and picture are creative or colorful and indicate the congressional power.	Making Progress - C The title is confusing and does not indicate the power. The picture is colorful or creative.	Not Yet - D The title is confusing, there is a picture.
