Topic Sentence	Good The topic sentence tells the reader what the paragraph is about and grabs the reader's attention. Detail Sentences	Good The writer has 8-12 detail sentences about the topic.	Fair The writer has 5-7 detail sentences about the topic.	Poor The writer has less than 5 detail sentences about the topic.
Ending Sentence	Good The ending sentence summarizes the paragraph and refers to the topic sentence.	Fair The ending sentence summarizes the paragraph but makes no reference to the topic sentence.	Poor The ending sentence does not summarize the paragraph and does not refer to the topic sentence.
Capitalization	Good The writer has no errors with capitalization at the beginning of sentences and/or with proper nouns.	Fair The writer has 3-4 erors with capitalization at the beginning of sentences and/or with proper nouns.	Poor The writer has 5 or more errors with capitalization at the beginning of sentences and/or with proper nouns.
