Persuasive Essay Rubric
	Poor 1 pts	Fair 2 pts	Good 3 pts
Arguments	Poor The student lists reasons but does not back up with facts or other support	Fair The student uses some facts to support the argument but they are not used the entire time. The facts are disputed.	Good The student bases all their arguments on facts that they have researched. The facts are reliable and are used to back up the argument that the student has made.
Format	Poor The student does not have the 3 paragraphs that were part of the directions.	Fair The student has the 3 paragraphs but the paragraphs are not sufficient and do not follow the directions given.	Good The student has used the correct format and has included all five paragraphs that are part of the persuassive essay
Grammar and Spelling	Poor More than 3 spelling or grammar errors.	Fair One to three grammar or spelling errors.	Good Zero spelling or grammar errors.
Following Directions	Poor The student did not follow directions given by the teacher. The paper lacks main concepts that were to be included.	Fair The student followed directions but were missing parts that were told to be included in the essay.	Good The student's paper follows all directions. This includes double spaced, 12 pt font, times font, and name and heading on the paper.
