Noteflight Mechanics	Beginning The composition is poorly written or incomplete. The program was not used properly. There are 9 or more errors in the intended notation and/or rhythms.	Developing The composition is developing, but there are problems with the mechanics of the notation or rhythms. The notation or intended rhythms contains 6-8 errors.	Proficient The composition is clearly written with 3-5 errors in notation and/or rhythm.	Exemplary The composition is clearly written with no errors in notation and/or rhythm.
Rhythmic Values	Beginning Student did not use the appropriate variety of rhythmic values which should be 3 or more half-notes, 4 or more quarter notes, 6 or more eighth notes, and at least 2 quarter beat rests.	Developing Student used 2 out of the four required rhythmic values.	Proficient Student used 3 out of the four required rhythmic values.	Exemplary Student used all 4 of the required rhythmic values.
Musical Symbols	Beginning The required musical symbols (tempo, dynamic, and expression markings) are not evident. Title and/or composer is missing.	Developing Student used 1 out of the three required musical symbols.	Proficient Student included a title and composer, but used only 2 out of the three required musical symbols.	Exemplary Student included a title and composer, and used all three of the required musical symbols.
Melody	Beginning The song is choppy. The melody of the song is unclear. The syllables in the lyrics do not have their own musical note.	Developing The melody is apparent is some places but unclear in others. Only half of the words in the lyrics have their own musical note.	Proficient The melody is mostly smooth and clear.. Almost all of the words in the lyrics have their own musical note.	Exemplary The melody is very clear. All of the words in the lyrics have their own musical note.
