Advanced The paper's articles include a breaking story or "scoop," or otherwise go beyond what we have learned.
Quality of articles	No production / unsatisfactory The newspaper was handed in late and/or was not completed.	Beginning The paper's articles show little or no evidence of collaboration between the group members.	Developing The paper's articles show some evidence of collaboration between the group members.	Proficient The paper's articles show ample evidence of collaboration between the group members.	Advanced The layout's articles show an innovative or exhaustive collaboration between the group members.
Copy-editing	No production / unsatisfactory The newspaper was handed in late and/or was not completed.	Beginning The paper's articles show a marked lack of copy-editing. Mistakes that could be easily corrected are frequent on the page.	Developing The paper's articles show some evidence of copy-editing, but there are still too many correctable mistakes.	Proficient The paper's articles show ample evidence of copy-editing. There may be one or two small mistakes on the page.	Advanced The paper is error-free.

Beginning The paper's photos and ads are placed in such a way that distracts from the rest of the page in an unpleasing way. The photos do not relate to the content on the page. The cutlines to not relate to the photos.	Developing The paper's photos and ads are placed in a mildly distracting or confusing way. The cutlines do not relate well to the photos, or the relation is not clear.	Proficient The paper's photos and/or ads are placed in a coherent, pleasing design. The paper's cutlines consistently match the stories.	Advanced The paper's photos and/or ads and/or cutliness are innovative and/or show a mastery of design beyond what we have learned.
Overall	No production / unsatisfactory The newspaper was handed in late and/or was not completed.	Beginning Overall, the paper has a sloppy, amateurish, unpleasing effect because of one or more of the following: --poor writing --poor copy-editing --poor design	Developing Overall, the paper is passable, but lacks a professional, competent quality due to one or more of the following: -mediocre writing -mistakes in copy-editing -somewhat unpleasing or confusing design	Proficient Overall, the paper has a professional, competent quality, due to strong writing, careful copy-editing, and coherent design.	Advanced Overall, the paper innovates and/or shows a mastery of layout design and editing beyond what we have learned.
