Math Effort Rubric
	Below Standard 1 pts	Approaching Standard 3 pts	At Standard 5 pts
Time Management	Below Standard The student is often distracted and distracts others. The student often needs the teacher to repeat the directions or teaching for the student to complete the task. Student routinely behaves in a way that draws attention to himself/herself.	Approaching Standard Sometimes the student is distracted but gets back on track with little reminding. The student usually completes work on time. The student sometimes needs to be reminded of the task or does not always put expected effort into work.	At Standard Every day the student begins work without reminders. If distracted, he/she gets back on track without reminding. He/She allows others to do their work by concentrating on own work. The student clearly puts effort into work and checks it before turning it in.
Challenge	Below Standard The student sometimes works on the math assignment or at least part of it. The student often gets frustrated right away and gives up or does not try to do the activity at all.	Approaching Standard The student works on the math assignment, but tends to stop working on it when a problem is difficult. The student needs encouragement and help so he/she doesn’t get frustrated and give up.	At Standard The student works on math assignments until complete. The student continues to try tasks that are difficult and will seek help within the classroom as needed.
Active Engagement	Below Standard The student does not participate or ask questions during activities or assignments.	Approaching Standard The student needs encouragement to take part in class activities and assignments or to participate appropriately in tasks.	At Standard The student regularly joins in during class activities, group tasks, and assignments; student will ask questions when he/she needs to.
Assignment Completion	Below Standard Not meeting expectations	Approaching Standard All assignments completed on time; however, either not all corrections were done or done well or assignments not properly labeled.	At Standard All assignments completed on time and corrections done well. Assignments clearly labeled with name, section number, and problems completed.
